China has launched its first non-profit animated series dedicated to protecting kids online: Ai Xiaoya’s Online Adventure.

The premiere took place in Beijing on Jan. 29. The project came to life through a collaboration between Beijing Normal University’s School of Journalism and Communication, the China Federation of Internet Societies, UNICEF China, Tencent, and several other partners.

Dozens of primary and middle school students joined by their parents participated in the event. They visited the Beijing Youth Internet Literacy Practical Learning Center and Tencent’s headquarters as part of an engaging premiere and study tour experience.

Kids today are entering the digital world at younger ages and spending far more time on devices, especially during school holidays when daily routines disappear. That shift brings a sharp rise in risks: online scams, exposure to harmful content, privacy leaks, and more. Traditional safety lectures often feel dry and fail to connect—so this series takes a completely different approach.

Across five short episodes, each lasting about three minutes, the cheerful character Ai Xiaoya guides her friends Xiao An and Xiao Jian through relatable online adventures. These stories spotlight the five biggest risks young users face today. By blending practical safety tips and key legal basics into engaging plots, the series makes important lessons easy to understand and remember—no lectures required.

Released just in time for winter break, Ai Xiaoya’s Online Adventure offers families, schools, and communities a fresh, high-quality tool to help children build stronger digital skills. As a non-profit effort created purely for the public good, it empowers young Internet users to explore safely and with confidence.
