On November 19, 2021, the Self-discipline Convention on Algorithm Application of Internet Information Services was released at the Data and Algorithm Forum of the first China Internet Civilization Conference.
The Convention was jointly initiated by the China Federation of Internet Societies (CFIS) as well as 105 member units and relevant companies, aiming to strengthen the self-discipline of the Internet information service industry, guide platforms and enterprises to assume social responsibility, promote positive energy and virtue in algorithm application, and help build a good ecosystem of algorithms.
The Convention emphasizes that all relevant platforms should strictly abide by laws, regulations, and policies, establish algorithm governance mechanisms and implement algorithm governance measures. Platforms should protect the individual's rights to know, to choose as well as the legitimate rights and interests of user groups, effectively address the difficulties in safeguarding rights, and safeguard individual rights and interests. Platforms should guard against the security risks of algorithm application, information content, and algorithm data and build a strong security defense line. Platforms should promote fair information recommendation, orderly flow, fair commodity prices, fair order distribution, and promote fair algorithm. Platforms should promote innovation and development in design and development, algorithm application, algorithm management, and so on.
The Convention was initiated by CFIS and other 105 member units and relevant companies, including China Internet Development Foundation, Cyber Security Association of China, Internet Society of China, people.com, Xinhuanet.com, CCTV, Alibaba, Tencent, Baidu, and JD.
