On December 27th, the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) officially notified that it had granted special consultative status to the China Federation of Internet Societies(CFIS).

ECOSOC was established in 1945 in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations, as well as the only principal organ of the United Nations with a formal framework for NGO participation. The granting of consultative status to NGOs through ECOSOC is an important way for social organizations to participate deeply in the UN global governance system and an important symbol of international recognition for social organizations.

In the future, CFIS will actively participate in various meetings and activities of ECOSOC, and continue to make use of its resources and professional advantages to do a good job in capacity building, communication and cooperation, and rule making, so as to help promote the achievement of UN sustainable development goals. At the same time, it will make full use of the UN platform to tell the Chinese story and help promote China's in-depth participation in the reform of the global cyberspace governance system.

It is reported that as of December 2022, the number of NGOs in consultative status worldwide has reached 6343, and there are 97 in China (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan). CFIS is the first social organization in the field of Cybersecurity and Informatization to obtain consultative status.
